Don’t staple your taxes

IRS instructions for mailing tax return and payment:
IRS instructions for mailing tax return and payment: “Don’t staple or otherwise attach your payment or Form 1040-V to your return. Instead, just put them loose in the envelope.”

I like the helpful tip tone to this instruction.

Not sure why you’d want to be adding the weight of extra staples to an envelope that might need an “additional postage” stamp already.

Although if you’re one of the people who must write multiple checks, you’re probably not someone who’s worrying about additional postage.
